A temperature warning or hot-engine message means the engine coolant temperature may be too high. Ignoring it can lead to serious engine damage.
Get to a safe place
Turn off the air conditioner and pull over as soon as conditions allow. Shut the engine off if the warning remains or the gauge continues to rise.
Avoid burns
Never open a radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap on a hot engine. Pressurized coolant can cause severe burns.
After cooling
Use the owner’s manual before checking coolant. Visible leaks, repeated overheating, steam, or a strong sweet odor need professional attention.
